“As we worked through this package provided to be quite a
good OCR title. It maintained the formatting and font information
on all of the scanners it came with, superior to TextBridge, and performed
as well as the lite versions of OmniPage that we saw... the OCR package
does a good job at page-to-text conversion.”

“In our tests, TypeReader proved very accurate. The TypeReader
Workstation suite of modules contains all you need for OCR processing
and management of scanned documents or image files. With both TWAIN
and ISIS support it works with all the most popular scanners, handles
multiple columns of text efficiently, and retains document formatting
well. ”

“In the case of TextBridge, it appears to be a price advantage.
However, OmniPage and TypeReader seem to be competing on the basis
of those features that mean the most to OCR users for whom additional
cost is not that paramount a consideration. They both are expensive,
but they certainly deliver.”

“One major improvement in TypeReader over its previous versions
and its competition is the inclusion of an image handling program
within the OCR package. Caere used to do this, but has not for several
consecutive releases. It is really good to see this in the new version
of TypeReader. It is not intended to compete with the likes of PhotoShop,
but we don't always need PhotoShop to do a little scanned image enhancement.
TypeReader Imaging does quite well, even providing some really neat
and unexpected features such as barcode recognition and Clipboard
OCR that allows OCRing on the fly.”

“TypeReader EZ is an add-on that recognizes that many, even
in professional environments, are either new to OCRing or still are
intimidated by it. It eases the process by automating more of it.
Those who can benefit from the ability to customize their OCR process
still have that with TypeReader. However, those wanting or needing
to simply click and run now also have that option.”
